Company History

After researching the renewable energy products available in the UK, Matthew and Chris started CTG Energy as part of Causeway Trading Group Limited in August 2000. After three years experience and with 40 solar panels installations behind them, Chris and Matthew along with Kay decided to concentrate on renewable energy and launch a new company Independent Energy. We are a small company with a wealth of expertise and experience. We operate mainly in Cornwall with very limited overheads (no national advertising campaigns and no sales staff). This allows us to offer a very competitive price for our products. We are not tied to any particular product manufacturer and can give you honest and independent advice about all available products. Our aim is to provide a personal and professional service.

The Directors

Dr. Matthew Trewhella

Matthew has a PhD in Astrophysics and spend three years working for NASA in California. He has spent the last nine years working with and researching renewable products in the UK. His technical knowledge and experience allows him to custom design a renewable energy system to suit your needs and budget. Matt is also helping train the next generation renewable energy experts through one-day courses at the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trustand the Renewable Energy degree course at Falmouth.

Dr. Kay Trewhella

Kay has a PhD in biology and is a keen environmentalist. She completed her PhD with the Forestry Commission in Scotland and then worked for the Pure and Applied Biology department at Cardiff University for several years. She became interested in alternative energy sources while teaching science in California. Kay now runs the product ordering and work scheduling and is the person you are most likely to speak to first when you contact us.

Mr. Christopher Trewhella

Chris has over thirty years business experience in the building industry. His company, Causeway Trading Group Limited, became a household name as CTG Windows and was built on the quality of service and products it provided. Products from CTG have brought energy savings to thousands of homes in Cornwall. With over 300 installations of solar panels in Cornwall completed, Chris is there to make sure your installation goes smoothly.

Mr. John Trewhella

John has experience and qualifications in business administrations, sales, management and construction. He joined the company in July 2008 and initially ran our office systems and work programming but now concentrates mainly on installation. He is a specialist in design and installation of underfloor heating systems.
